BEYOND
THEIR DREAMS

From Caterpillars to Butterflies:

Empowering Women

Transforming Lives

“According to DANE, there are 23,312,832 women in Colombia. More than 12 million of them are mothers who are heads of households, many are victims of unemployment and gender violence. There are no educational or job guarantees for them and their children, which is why thousands live in conditions of extreme poverty.”

30 of those mothers live in Repelón, Atlántico (Colombia).  They are vulnerable women, with economic, educational, and social distress due to unemployment, the armed conflict, discrimination, and domestic violence. This situation results in low or no self-esteem, illness, social isolation, among other calamities, with a huge impact on the future of their children.
